City of Peru Public Services Committee met Nov. 21.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

ROLL CALL: Aldermen Waldorf, Lukosus, Ballard and Edgcomb present. 

OTHER ALDERMEN PRESENT: Aldermen Payton, Sapienza, Buffo, Tieman

MINUTES

Alderman Lukosus made a motion to approve the Public Services Meeting minutes of November 7 2022. Alderman Ballard seconded the motion; motion carried.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None

WATER & SEWER

PSM/Fire Chief Jeff King reported crews are working on restoration from multiple, significant water main breaks in the area of Westclox and Pulaksi Street.

STREETS & ALLEY

ELECTRIC

Committee discussed seeking applicants for Operator Maintenance at the Electric Department. Electric Operations Manager Max Brandenburg reported a current operator will retire in May and working on fine tuning mechanical type duty.

Committee discussed seeking internal applicants for Electric Department Apprentice Lineman position.

Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning initiated a discussion and recommended changes to City Ordinance Chapter 114 Utilities, Section 114-300 Tampering with City Electric Property. Mr. Carls recommended a penalty structure of $500 and also recommended a meter package for electric to recoup costs.

Alderman Waldorf reported on the need/preference for two new laborers in the public works department with the upcoming retirement of Jim Sittler.

Electric Operations Manager Max Brandenburg reported on hydro repairs (unit 2) and the extended 20-week lead times for materials. Mr. Brandenburg recommended changing materials/specifications to facility our guy repairing. Mr. Brandenburg further noted the need to purchase heavy duty parts. Committee agreed to pursue the order by emergency policy.

Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning recommended initiating a proposal/RFP to evaluate all generation equipment.

PSM/Fire Chief Jeff King asked City Clerk Dave Bartley to check on insurance coverage.

LANDFILL

PSM/Fire Chief Jeff King reported on the EPA mandated sink holes have been filled and inspected.

AIRPORT

Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning reported the corporate hangar will not move until spring.

Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning reported taxiway project is informally suspended.

CEMETERY

PSM/Fire Chief Jeff King reported noted the landscape entries that will be completed in the spring.

PSM/Fire Chief King reported the boy scouts purchased evergreen crosses and will be hung on the fences.

PARKS & RECREATION

Adam Thorson, Director of Parks, Recreation and Special Events reported on the following: • Upcoming lighted parade on December 3rd

• Holiday Lighting Contest

• Pistol Shrimp agreement

CODE ENFORCEMENT/BUILDING & ZONING

None

ENGINEERING

Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning noted most projects are wrapping up and noted residents should be aware the punch list items are not necessarily complete, specifically restoration.

IT REPORT

Deputy Chief Sarah Raymond noted the IT team has jumped in on major issues with the community room technology and saved the city substantial money.

NEW BUSINESS

PSM/Fire Chief Jeff King recommended out reporting technology on the lift stations for alarms in the amount of $40,829. PSM/Fire Chief King to have a proposal for next meeting.

PSM/Fire Chief Jeff King informed the committee that all the reporting requirements from the OSHA inspections are complete.

Alderman Lukosus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Alderman Edgcomb seconded the motion; motion carried.
