City of LaSalle Street, Alleys and Traffic Committee met Aug. 7.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairman Bacidore Called the Meeting to order at 6:08pm

ROLL CALL

Present: Chairman Bacidore, Aldermen Ptak, Reynolds, Lavieri, Jeppson Herndon, Crane

Excused Absence: None

Others Present: Others Present: Finance Director John Duncan, Alderman Thompson, Economic Development Director Curt Bedei, Fire Chief Jerry Janick, City Treasurer Virginia Kochanowski, City Building Inspector Andy Bacidore

A quorum was present.

Moved by Alderman Reynolds and seconded by Alderman Crane to approve the minutes from July 24, 2023.

Voice vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

Aldermen discussed the request for stop signs at the intersection of Baker Avenue and Washington streets.

Alderman Crane shared support from a resident who noted speeding in the area. City Engineer Brian Brown said studies have shown stop signs do not slow traffic. Brown said the opposite can occur if a driver is speeding into a stop sign. He also noted there are a variety of considerations to determine if a stop sign is needed. Alderman Herndon asked if police could put a speedometer “slow traffic” sign at the intersection. No members of the public were present to discuss the issue. Deputy Clerk Brent Bader noted two residents reached out regarding the complaint, one in support and one in opposition.

Moved by Alderman Crane and seconded by Alderman Herndon to approve stop signs at Baker Avenue and Washington streets.

AYE: Aldermen Herndon, Crane

NAY: Chairman Ptak, Aldermen Ptak, Reynolds, Lavieri, Jeppson

MOTION FAILED: 2 – 5

Alderman Herndon said he would still like the speedometer “slow traffic” sign added to the area. Alderman Crane said he’ll determine which way the speeders are traveling and advise police to set the speedometer up accordingly.

There were no more questions or comments from the public.

Moved by Alderman Reynolds and seconded by Alderman Crane to adjourn the meeting.

Voice vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

Chairman Bacidore adjourned the meeting at 6:14pm
