City of LaSalle Finance Committee met Sept. 5.

Chairman Ptak Called the Meeting to order at 6:00pm
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairman Ptak, Aldermen Thompson, Reynolds, Lavieri, Jeppson, Herndon (6:02pm), Crane
Absent: Alderman Bacidore
Others Present: Deputy Clerk Brent Bader, Finance Director John Duncan, Economic Development Director Curt Bedei, City Engineer Brian Brown, City Building Inspector Andy Bacidore, Fire Chief Jerry Janick, City Treasurer Virginia Kochanowski
A quorum was present.
Moved by Alderman Reynolds and seconded by Alderman Thompson to approve the minutes from August 21, 2023.
Voice vote, all ayes. Motion carried.
Alderman Lavieri explained the Nationwide 401(a) compensation plan that was being offered to one of the current Police Officers that is retired from a different department. Retired officers are allowed to collect their own pension from the department in which they retired from but this option will be separate and will hopefully attract retired officers in the future. The options that the city is offering will allow the employee to pick what would be the best option for them.
Moved by Alderman Jeppson and seconded by Alderman Thompson to approve the creation of a Nationwide 401(a) Compensation Plan.

MOTION CARRIED: 6-0
Alderman Jeppson did question the excessive overtime within the Fire Department. Chief Janick mentioned that they have been extremely short handed and vacation time that was being used. They are also short EMTs and hope to recruit a few after completion of the IVCC course term.
There were no more questions or comments from the public.
Moved by Alderman Reynolds and seconded by Alderman Crane to adjourn the meeting.
Voice vote, all ayes. Motion carried.
